ART DECO IN JOHANNESBURG
Johannesburg has a unique legacy and heritage in its art Deco Architecture; office blocks, hotels, cinemas, department stores, industrial buildings, residential apartments presenting a new take on design began to appear in Johannesburg between the first and second world war.
Deco was a style that combined the new engineering and construction possibilities with a sensitivity to good looks, aesthetic appeal, and liveability. There are many examples in the city centre and in the suburbs.
